Intracranial Hypertension

Hi, alot of krap has happened to me in the last two months or so, all of which i'm a little fuzzy on because of the morphine/codeine etc. I have been diagnosed with a condition called Intracranial Hypertension; basically that means that there is too much fluid around my brain and it's causing pressure. The retarded story is how i eventually got diagnosed. I have been having migranes every now and then for years but i had a migrane for about two weeks straight. I had also been feeling really run down, nausious and just not right. One night it was so bad that i couldn't the pain or vomiting so i ended up at the emergency room of Canberra Hospital. I got there and waited for hours, eventually i got to see a doctor. They just gave me something to stop vomiting and morphine to stop pain/knock me out; 15 or so hours later they sent me home, still with a headache. The migranes continued and i went to my GP who ran every test he could think of, a million blood test, brain scan, etc and couldn't find anything but a vitamin B12 deficiency (which i now get shots for). My GP basically gave me a total bill of health and said i just get migranes and to take pain medicine. I had now had the migranes for about 6 weeks straight so i went to see the optometrists, i figgured i've tried doctors mabey it's my perscription. I went to the optometrist and he said my perscription is fine but that i had very swollen optic nerves and i eventually saw an eye doctor the next evening (that's another story - won't bother!). That night i looked on the net and found Intracranial Hypertension and believed that this is what i had, just needed to confirm with the doctors (If you need something done - do it yourself, they are hopeless). The eye doctor told me he thinks i have Intracranial Hypertension and sent me to see a neurologist the next day. I couldn't get an appointment and ended up being told to go through Emergency (at Calvery) and they ran more tests and i saw the doc and got admitted to hospital again. They did a lumbar puncture and my CSF level was at 44 (should be around 10-20) and that confirmed the diagnosis of IH. I tried some medicine called Diamox and ended up sicker than i was before i took it so i stopped that and went back to the Neurologist. He changed me over to Lasix which so far doesn't seem to have any side effects and things are starting to look better. Thou i am not allowed to take the pill anymore and have to loose weight (neither of which could effect it at all ) :/

BTW, in the middle of this i changed jobs, i am no longer working on the helpdesk. I am working on the same contract with the same company but am now a Desktop Support Technician and am located in one of our clients buildings.

So yeah, that's what's been up with me. Other than that, it's been christmas, i went down to wagga for the weekend and back to canberra for monday/xmas day. It was a good day :).

Almost New years, YAY!.. Kaz
